Abstract Wall Art

Original abstract wall art, painted by hand to order on canvas — composition, colour and texture, never printed. Free insured shipping Australia-wide and 30-day free returns.

Abstract art gives you composition without a subject: shape, colour, balance and mark, arranged so the painting works as an object rather than a picture of something. It is the most personal art to choose, because nothing in it tells you what to feel — which is exactly why it holds up on a wall for years.

How to choose an abstract painting

There is no code to crack, and looking for a hidden subject is the fastest way to bounce off a good abstract. A more useful test: look at it for thirty seconds, then look away and see what you remember. If a shape, a colour relationship or a movement stayed with you, the painting will keep working on the wall. If nothing did, it won't, however impressive it looked at first glance. Choose the one you keep returning to rather than the one you can most easily justify.

Scale, placement and light

Abstract work generally wants more room than representational art. Because there is no focal subject to anchor it, a small abstract on a large wall reads as an accident; the same painting at twice the size reads as intentional. Hang the centre at roughly eye level — about 145–150 cm from the floor — and above furniture, aim for around two-thirds the width of the piece below. Our large and oversized pieces are made for walls where scale is the point. For work that leans on surface as much as composition, see textured wall art.

Made to order, one of one

Painted after you order, photographed for your approval, shipped ready to hang and fully insured. Because each is composed by hand, the piece you receive is the only one of its kind.

Frequently asked questions

What is abstract wall art?

Abstract art uses colour, shape, line and texture as its subject rather than depicting a recognisable scene or object. The composition itself is what you are looking at.

How do I know if an abstract painting is any good?

A practical test: look at it, look away, and see what you still remember. A composition that leaves an impression after you stop looking will keep working on a wall. Beyond that, judge it in your own room and light — which is why returns are free for 30 days.

Are these original paintings?

Yes — every piece is painted by hand to order on canvas. No prints, no reproductions.

How high should I hang an abstract canvas?

Centre it at roughly 145–150 cm from the floor, or a little lower if the room is mostly experienced seated. Above furniture, leave about 15–25 cm between the top of the furniture and the bottom of the canvas.
